The recent PIIC Professional Learning Opportunity (PLO), held from April 26-28, 2010 at the Penn Stater Conference Center, was well received by attendees.  This was the largest PIIC event yet, with nearly 90 mentors, coaches, and school administrators from across the state.  The conference centered around providing one-on-one support to teachers, focusing on evidence-based literacy and instructional strategies, advocating non-evaluative and reflective practices, and concentrating on data collection and analysis to assess student needs.

In a blog reflecting on the conference, Ellen Eisenberg, PIIC’s Executive Director, noted that the “participants networked and engaged in meaningful conversations around professional issues….When coaches have an opportunity to discuss issues and topics that impact instructional coaching with their colleagues, they nourish their own professional growth and foster collaboration.”

The next PIIC PLO will be July 26-28, 2010.  PIIC will have differentiated strands of learning for newer coaches, experienced coaches, school leaders (see: PLN 1 for School Leaders Course), and elementary coaches.  PIIC PLO’s are open to coaches and administrators in participating PIIC IUs only.  For more information, please contact your IU PIIC Mentor.
