Breanne Scears, IU1 PIIC Mentor, spent several years as a Special Education Teacher. Breanne was a Life Skills, Autistic Support and a Learning Support teacher. She holds a Bachelors in Elementary Education K-6, a Bachelors in Special Education N-12 and is certified in Middle Level English, Language Arts and Reading grades 7-9. Breanne is also a Reading Specialist. Breanne has spent several years coaching youth sports programs and has served on many leadership committees in her school districts. Breanne has experience collaborating with other teachers on classroom lessons and content from a co-teacher perspective. Breanne is also the Technology Integrator at the Intermediate Unit 1 and leads professional development sessions for local districts who seek assistance with technology tools for teachers within the classroom.
Heather Moschetta, IU3 PIIC Mentor, holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary English Education, an Masters of Education in Curriculum & Instruction, and a Ph.D. in Instructional Leadership and Management. Prior to joining IU3, she spent fifteen years in the classroom as a high school English teacher and two years as an instructional literacy coach. She is also an adjunct professor teaching business communication courses and works as an ESL writing tutor for international masters and doctoral students.
Amy Walker, IU 4 PIIC Mentor, holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education/Elementary education and a Master of Science in Special Education with a specialization in students with serious emotional disturbance. She also has a Doctorate of Philosophy degree in English (linguistics and composition). For 26 years Walker taught a self-contained secondary classroom on the grounds of a residential treatment facility for adolescents with serious emotional/behavioral challenges. She was also an adjunct professor for a state university, where she taught both graduate and undergraduate courses in literacy.
Donette Porter, IU 5 PIIC Mentor, earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary English, Master of Education in Reading, and Master of Education in Educational Leadership. She is certified in English 7-12, Reading K-12, and Principal K-12. She taught high school English and Reading for seven years and was a literacy coach for eight years. Donette recently joined IU5 in Training and Consultation and is now a Program Supervisor. She is excited about PIIC in IU5!
Denise A. Ross, IU 6 PIIC Mentor, holds a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, Master's Degree with Reading Specialist Certification (both from Clarion University), and a Master's Degree with Special Education from Slippery Rock University. Prior to joining IU 6 a year ago, she was a Title I Reading Specialist for 11 years and a Learning Support teacher for 1 year. She looks forward to mentoring instructional coaches across Clarion and Venango County.
Cynthia Shaffer, IU 7 PIIC Mentor, has served as a Curriculum Specialist and a PAIU TIM at IU 7 for the past three years. Prior to joining IU 7, Cindy worked as an elementary teacher, Title 1 reading specialist, and a technology coordinator. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Speech and Hearing, Elementary Education Certificate, Reading Specialist Certificate and a Principals Certificate. She is looking forward to mentoring instructional coaches across Westmoreland County.
Jennifer Herncane, IU 8 PIIC Mentor, holds a Bachelor Degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education, a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and a Reading Specialist Certificate from The Pennsylvania State University. She also holds a K-12 Principal Certificate from Indian University of Pennsylvania and is a certified LETRS Trainer. Prior to coming to IU8 Jennifer worked as a classroom teacher, Instructional Coach and Reading Specialist for the past 20 years. Along with being a PIIC mentor Jen also serves as a Curriculum Specialist for IU8. Jen is thrilled to begin working as a PIIC mentor.
Teri Everett, IU 9 PIIC Mentor, holds a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education and a Master of Education in Social Counseling from Duquesne University. She has taught students in urban settings to rural classrooms and on the Navajo reservation. Teri has been a Literacy Instructional Coach for much of her educational career. She brings with her a variety of experiences, both in the classroom and in the professional development arena.
Diane Hubona, IU 10 PIIC Mentor, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary English Education and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. She also holds a Letter of Endorsement in Instructional Coaching from Wilkes University. Prior to becoming the IU8 PIIC mentor, Diane taught high school English and Speech Communications for 23 years before becoming a PAHSCI instructional literacy coach at Bellwood-Antis High School. She still maintains the role of part-time literacy coach for the Bellwood-Antis School District. Diane is currently an adjunct faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania where she facilitates Penn Literacy Network courses that focus on literacy-based instructional strategies.
Alicia Hull, IU 11 PIIC Mentor, has a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education K-6 and Early Childhood Education and earned her Master’s in Educational Leadership through Saint Francis University. Alicia spent 16 years teaching in the Southern Huntingdon County School District where she taught elementary as well as middle school Language Arts. She served as a part-time Instructional Coach during her last year at Southern Huntingdon. Alicia recently joined IU 11 in Training and Consultation and is now the Coordinator of Professional Development Services. She is very excited to be a part of PIIC again!
Terri Lewis, IU 13 PIIC Mentor, holds a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from The Pennsylvania State University, a Master's Degree in Reading Education from Millersville University of PA, and a Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership from Immaculata University . She also holds Reading Specialist, Reading Supervisor, General Administrative, and National Board Teaching Certifications. Over the last 16 years, prior to her role as Literacy Consultant at IU 13, she served as literacy supervisor, reading specialist, reading coach, and classroom teacher in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Illinois and Tennessee. Terri is thrilled to be a part of PIIC.
Gail Porrazzo, IU 14 PIIC Mentor, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Community Health and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Penn State University. She also holds an Elementary, Early Childhood, and K-12 Principal’s certification. Gail has been an elementary teacher, reading teacher, IST teacher, administrator for preschool early intervention and principal. Currently, Gail serves as Program Administrator in the Office of Professional Development at the Berks County Intermediate Unit and is delighted to join the PIIC team!
Scott Snyder, IU 15 PIIC Mentor, is a graduate of Bowling Green State University with a B.S. in Communication Education. Scott was an English teacher for 21 years before transitioning to a Technology Educational Consultant role. As a classroom teacher, he taught Theater, American Literature, and AP Language and Composition before taking on the duties of Instructional Coach for several years, supporting teachers striving to increase student achievement, working to improve classroom practice and supporting basic technology needs. At the IU, he continues this work and has been focused on Instruction Technology and Blended Learning.
Chris Mitcheltree, IU 16 PIIC Mentor, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary English Education, a Master’s in Curriculum & Instruction, and a Certificate of Endorsement in Instructional Coaching. Chris has served several years in private and public schools as a classroom teacher, youth sports coach, curriculum director, and as an adjunct professor at the Pennsylvania College of Technology. She does life coaching with individuals and families and at IU 16 she works in Curriculum & Professional Development.
Deb Goff, PIIC Mentor, IU 17 PIIC Mentor, holds a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science in Elementary Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and certification as a literacy coach from the Literacy Collaborative, Ohio State University & Leslie University. She taught and coached at the elementary level for 23 years. She also taught 7 years of adult GED classes. Deb retired from the Williamsport Area School District in 2013, but continues working in education as a consultant.
Sondra Humenansky, IU 18 PIIC Mentor, spent several years in the elementary classroom teaching primarily upper elementary. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education (K-6), Math 7-9 Certification, and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum & Instruction. Not only is she the PIIC Mentor for IU 18, Sondra is also the Early Elementary Curriculum Specialist.
Mike Zwanch, IU 19 PIIC Mentor, holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Drexel University, a Masters in Instructional Technology from Bloomsburg University, and is certified as an Instructional Technology Specialist. He is currently enrolled in a Principal's Certification program from Gwynedd-Mercy University (anticipated completion Fall 2016). Prior to becoming a Curriculum Specialist at NEIU 19, he taught for fourteen years in various positions ranging from regular education at the elementary level to gifted from K-12. In addition to serving as a PIIC Mentor, Mike serves as a consultant for IU 19 specializing in elementary literacy, technology integration, and gifted education.
Melissa Petrilak, IU 20 PIIC Mentor, has been an Educational Training Consultant for the Colonial Intermediate Unit the last nine years. Prior to joining the Training and Consulting staff at IU 20, she served as a classroom teacher for 11 years in the Pleasant Valley School District. She holds a Bachelor of Science and Master Degree in elementary education from East Stroudsburg University.
Carol Adams, IU 22 PIIC Mentor, holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in English Education from Temple University and a Master of Science in Reading/Writing/Literacy from the University of Pennsylvania. During her 33-year career, she has championed authentic and mindful approaches to learning and leading. In Philadelphia, she taught middle school English/Humanities and high school literacy. She also served as supervisor of Reading, English/Language Arts (K-12) and taught for Penn Literacy Network. On leaving Philadelphia School District, Ms. Adams went to Bucks County to become curriculum coordinator and later, administrator for the middle years at a charter school. She currently teaches and coaches Bucks County administrators in a course entitled “Mindful Leadership in the Age of Accountability.”
Amber Molloy, IU 23 PIIC Mentor, is a proven education professional with a passion and commitment to lead colleagues forward and to guide curriculum and instruction. Through experiences as a classroom teacher, reading specialist and district literacy leader,she has grown her skills in long-range planning and creating infrastructure to support the growth of teachers, schools and districts. Amber holds degrees in elementary education, literacy and administration, as well as, a certificate in instructional coaching and mentoring. She has served as classroom teacher, Reading Specialist, District RtII Implementation Coordinator, K-12 Supervisor of ELA Curriculum Instruction and adjunct college instructor.
Demetrius Roberts, IU 24 PIIC Mentor, holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Shippensburg University, a Master’s of Education in Secondary Education from Gratz College, and a Doctor of Education in Instructional Technology and Distance Education from Nova Southeastern University. He taught and served as an online school coordinator at the secondary grade level for 10 years. Currently, Demetrius serves as an Educational Technology Staff Development Specialist at the Chester County Intermediate Unit. In addition to being a PIIC mentor, he coordinates other initiatives and provides professional development for schools and districts in Chester County.
Jamie Pitcavage, IU 25 PIIC Mentor, is in his eleventh year in education. After graduating from Villanova with a BS in Secondary Education, he began in the classroom as a high school English teacher. Upon relocating to northern California, Jamie continued his career at the middle school level. This was where his passion for literacy strategies and metacognition truly developed, prompting him to get his Masters in Education from San Francisco State University with a focus in Literacy and Language. In addition to secondary levels, he also spent time teaching 5th grade to students with language-based learning differences. Most recently, before joining DCIU, he was an instructional coach, focusing on literacy in the secondary grades, all contents. Jamie is excited to transition his coaching experience into this mentor role.
Lori Ceremuga, IU 27 PIIC Mentor, has 20+ years experience as a Secondary and Post-Secondary teacher. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Comprehensive Business Education (Grades 7-12), a Master of Science in Education with a focus on Instructional Technology and is currently pursuing the Principal K-12 and Curriculum Supervisory certifications. Prior to her current Intermediate Unit roles of Instructional Technology Specialist, 21st Century Teaching and Learning Mentor and a LoTi (levels of Teaching Innovation) facilitator, she taught grades 9-12 and was the Electronic Portfolio Graduation Project Coordinator for Sharpsville Area School District. In addition, she has taught in Workforce Education and as an adjunct faculty member at Penn State University.
Jeremy Gabborin, IU 28 PIIC Mentor, holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Pennsylvania State University. Prior to joining IU 28, Jeremy was a classroom teacher at Apollo-Ridge School District for 7 years. He has taught Middle School Math Strategies, Elementary Math, and 4th grade Math and Science. This year, Jeremy joined IU 28 as Curriculum Specialist, and looks forward to his role as PIIC Mentor.
Andy Gavalis, IU 29 PIIC Mentor, holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s of Education in Reading with a Reading Specialist Certificate. Andy spent much of his career as a remedial reading teacher. Currently, he is the Supervisor of English Language Arts in the Curriculum Services Department at his Intermediate Unit.
Gen Battisto, PIIC Regional Mentor Coordinator, received a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, Marywood University; M.S in Mathematics Education, Syracuse University; Supervisory study and internship, University of Wisconsin-Madison. She served in Pocono Mountain School District 35 years as a mathematics teacher and K-12 Mathematics Supervisor. Gen was a PAHSCI/PIIC mentor for four years in Hazleton, Scranton and Lancaster and IU 21. Ms. Battisto served as a PIIC consultant in the Hazleton Area School District supporting teacher leaders and administrators in the development and implementation of an action plan for improving student achievement. Gen takes an active role in mathematics professional associations including Executive Board positions in NPCTM, PCTM and PCSM. She has been appointed to numerous PDE mathematics initiatives such as Task Force for 21st Century Mathematics and writing team for PA Math Standards. Gen's RMC-Mentor team consists of Rae Ann Crispell (IU 16 PIIC Mentor), Deb Goff (IU 17 PIIC Mentor), Loriann Hoffman (IU 18 PIIC Mentor), Mike Zwanch (IU 19 PIIC Mentor) and Melissa Petrilak (IU 20 PIIC Mentor).
Charles Territo, Regional Mentor Coordinator, received a Bachelor’s degree from Edinboro State University, a Master’s degree from Duquesne University and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from University of Pittsburgh. He began his career in the Pittsburgh Public Schools where he taught both elementary and high schools. After leaving the Pittsburgh Schools he worked in the Fox Chapel Area School District where he was a school counselor, the Director of School Counseling, the district public relations officer, Assistant High School Principal and High School Principal. Dr. Territo completed his career in public education as Superintendent of the Allegheny Valley School District. He is currently an adjunct professor at Robert Morris University where he teaches courses in the doctoral program in Instructional Management and Leadership. Dr. Territo was a leadership mentor and general consultant to both the PAHSCI and the PIIC Projects before becoming a Regional Mentor Coordinator. Charley's RMC-Mentor team consists of Heather Moschetta (IU 3 PIIC Mentor), Amy Walker (IU 4 PIIC Mentor), Donette Porter (IU 5 PIIC Mentor), Denise Ross (IU 6 PIIC Mentor), and Lori Ceremuga (IU 27 PIIC Mentor).
Virginia Glatzer, Regional Mentor Coordinator, offers 24 years of experience as an educator with the PA Department of Education, in the corporate world, and in the elementary classroom. She mentored instructional technology coaches for the Classrooms for the Future initiative in Pennsylvania, provided staff development on 21st Century teaching and learning to districts, designed computer-based training for financial consultants at Merrill Lynch, and has classroom experience in Kindergarten, Third, and Fourth grades. Virginia has a certificate in adult education. As a mentor, Virginia’s focus has been on 21st Century teaching and learning through the use of technology. During her school visits, she emphasized using technology to differentiate instruction, encouraged the link between content and authentic experience, and celebrated learning through collaboration and creativity. Virginia mentors coaches on how to move from School 1.0 to School 2.0. Virginia's RMC-Mentor team consists of Carol Adams (IU 22 PIIC Mentor), Amber Molloy (IU 23 PIIC Mentor), Demetrius Roberts (IU 24 PIIC Mentor) and Jamie Pitcavage (IU 25 PIIC Mentor).
Katherine Gori, Regional Mentor Coordinator, received a Bachelor's degree from California State University, a Master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Pittsburgh. She served in the Chartiers Valley School District in a variety of instructional and administrative roles. She began her career as an English teacher and later became the English Department Coordinator. She assumed administrative positions as assistant prinipal at both the high school and middle school levels and K-12 Director of Instruction and Pupil Personnel Services. After thirty-five years of service in public education, she retired from her position as Assistant Superintendent. Dr. Gori has had the pleasure of service as a PAHSCI Leadership Mentor and PIIC Field Support before assuming her current position as a Regional Mentor Coordinator. Kathy's RMC-Mentor team consists of Cindy Shaffer (IU 7 PIIC Mentor), Teri Everett (IU 9 PIIC Mentor), Diane Hubona (IU 10 PIIC Mentor), and Jeremy Gabborin (IU 28 PIIC Mentor).
Tom Sebastian, Regional Mentor Coordinator, received a Bachelor’s degree from Temple University and a Master’s degree from Villanova University. He worked in the School District of Philadelphia for 29 years serving as a teacher, department head, assistant principal, central office administrator, and high school principal. After leaving the Philadelphia School District, Mr. Sebastian was the principal of Jenkintown Middle/High School for three years and the principal of Penncrest High School for five years. In 2005, he accepted a position with Foundations, Inc. as the Director of High School Math and Literacy Coaching assigned to the PAHSCI. In 2010, Tom joined the PIIC initiative as a consultant and functioned as the mentor for IU25. Mr. Sebastian also serves as a facilitator for PLN and a consultant for PROACT Search. Tom's RMC-Mentor team consists of LaTisha Donaldson (IU 11 PIIC Mentor), Terri Lewis (IU 13 PIIC Mentor), Gail Porazzo (IU 14 PIIC Mentor), Scott Snyder (IU 15 PIIC Mentor), and Barbara Wilkinson (IU 29 PIIC Mentor).
Jacky Territo, Regional Mentor Coordinator, earned a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Speech and Hearing Handicapped from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, a Master's degree in Special Education from Duquesne University, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Supervision from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Territo spent her career in public education, having worked in the Pittsburgh Public schools prior to joining the Allegheny Intermediate Unit as the Director of Human Resources. She is now retired and a private consultant through Bristol Educational Associates, Inc. She has been an elementary teacher, speech and language therapist, special education teacher and supervisor, and central office administrator.. Her extensive background in Instructional Coaching includes: Resident Staff Member, Instructional Teacher Leader and Instructional Chairperson at Schenley High School Teacher Center, Pittsburgh PA. She served as Director of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Center for Teacher Leadership and also Director of the Pittsburgh Public School District/University Collaborative which provided training and development for Urban Teachers. She has been a guest speaker and an adjunct professor at several local colleges and universities and a consultant in school districts statewide. She has chaired several Middle States Accreditation visits nationally and internationally. Jacky's RMC-Mentor group consists of Breanne Scears (IU 1 PIIC Mentor) and Jen Herncane (IU 8 PIIC Mentor).
