PIIC and The Penn Literacy Network of the University of Pennsylvania are offering a graduate level, continuing education course for school leaders in participating PIIC Intermediate Units.  The course will be piloted at Appalachia IU 8 beginning this month.  A second round of courses will be offered at PIIC PD summer and fall events.

As the course description describes, "PLN 1 for School Leaders integrates leadership standards, change theories, and literacy strategies to increase student engagement which leads to student achievement. School leaders learn approaches to help them establish literate school environments that are grounded in problem solving, critical thinking, and logical reasoning - concepts that are focused on state and national standards."

Dr. Brian Toth, Superintendent of the Bellwood-Antis School District and Dr. Thomas Otto, Director of Curriculum at Bellwood Antis School District will be instructing the course, which consists of 4 face-to face, day-long sessions and one online class. Participants of the course will earn 4.5 continuing education, graduate level credits and 60 (sixty) Act 45 hours.
